In this day and age, an increasing number of people, both males and females, tend to have children at an age that is older than the past. More and more couples deliberately do not have offspring until they are in their late thirties or even forties. This has become a severe social issue in recent years.
From my personal perspective of thinking, I believe there are two main elements contributing to this phenomenon. The first thing that comes into my mind is the huge pressure originated from fierce social competition. The living cost in this country is spiraling and in order to make it more probable for the citizens to lead a quality life in the material way, ones have no choice but to strive extremely hard for higher wages which can be only increased slowly with accumulation of working experience. Having babies is very likely to occupy a large portion of our time and energy thus this can be only postponed to a later time.
The other factor is the latest trend of young people’s mindset. Newly weds, especially nowadays, are less prone to giving birth to a child at an early stage since their top priority is to enjoy the vigorous days of their youth through means of travelling, going to the cinema along with other kinds of recreational activities. In their minds, raising a kid is such a trouble that it should be dealt with when they are older.
In my opinion, this issue undoubtedly brings a negative impact to the society and the nation as a whole. As scientific studies show, ageing human bodies, namely parents in their middle age, are less competent in reproduction thus it would cause more new-born babies with lower intelligence and a higher rate of congenital defects. In addition, the recovery will be certain to take a much longer time for the puerperae. All this is to lower the overall quality of a nation’s citizens. Under this background, the authorities are obliged to take relevant measures, including but not limited to more publicity to raise the awareness of having babies at a younger age, to counter this problem.
